Steve Bulzomi started with MBC’s predecessor firm as a law clerk 25 years ago. Since that time, he has devoted his career to advocating for the injured and their legal rights. Whether the case involves a simple automobile collision, or a complex damage claim, Steve brings the same passion for justice to the cause.
One case that demonstrates Steve’s tenacity and commitment to his clients involved a 27 year old man who was riding his motorcycle on Interstate 5 to go to school to become a police officer. Behind him, a truck driver who delivered travel trailers. The trucker used his cruise control in heavy traffic and failed to slow down, crashed into the motorcycle at high speed, rendering the client paraplegic.
The client hired at least two lawyers who saw no chance for recovery beyond the meager insurance the truck carried. The truck driver was supposedly an independent contractor. However, the trailer manufacturer had additional insurance available. These insurers steadfastly denied coverage.
Steve promptly filed suit and discovered the existence of legally required leasing agreements that created a relationship between the truck driver and manufacturer which gave rise to additional insurance coverage. After a spirited legal battle, Steve convinced the court to rule that the manufacturer’s coverage extended to the truck. The case settled shortly thereafter for $2.7 million dollars.
Steve has obtained multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts in cases involving medical negligence, product liability, highway design, government liability, construction site injuries and automobile collisions. He has successfully argued numerous appeals in State and Federal courts, and won precedent setting decisions in several areas of tort law.
Steve’s passion for justice extends to the political arena where he was active in defeating I-330 (the medical malpractice initiative) and in supporting the victory of R-67 (the Insurance Fair Conduct Act). He has served on the Board of Governors for the Washington State Association for Justice since 1998, and is currently the Vice President for Continuing Legal Education. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Damages Attorneys Roundtable.
Steve was voted the Plaintiff’s Trial Lawyer of the Year for 2009, by the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers, received the President’s Award for 2010 from the Washington Association for Justice, and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs.
Steve is rated AV by Martindale Hubbell and has been voted a repeated “Super Lawyer” in Washington Law and Politics.
Born and raised in Seattle, Stephen is married to Linda (Hodgkinson), with whom he has two children.
