John was recently selected by his peers as one of Washington’s Top 40 Personal Injury attorneys. For the past seven years, John has also been selected by his peers as one of Washington’s “Super Lawyers.” He is a member of the National Million Dollars Advocates Forum, which is limited to trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill, experience and excellence by achieving a trial verdict, award or settlement of $1 million or more. John joined MBC in 1994 and became named partner in 2006.
John’s successes include several multi-million-dollar settlements in cases involving medical negligence, government supervision, highway design, dramshop liability and severe motor vehicle collisions. More recently John was involved in a $4.2 million bicycle crash case and $2.8 million swimming pool near drowning case.
In 1985, John graduated with honors and dual majors from the University of Utah. In 1989 he received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, graduating cum laude. From 1989-1994, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Washington, working primarily with the Department of Corrections and Department of Labor and Industries.
John is extremely active in local and statewide bar associations. He was recently elected to a two year term as Trustee with the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association and serves as the chairman of the Judicial Qualifications Committee. At the state level, John has served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. He is a prestigious Double Eagle member with the Washington Association for Justice, through which he provides strategic advice to other attorneys on complex personal injury cases. John also served as a member of the WSAJ Continuing Legal Education committee.
In his off time, John is pursuing his Black Belt in Taekwondo and participates in weekly full contact sparing drills. John is also an avid collector and player of vintage guitars. A good way to engage John’s attention to start talking about guitars or martial arts. John is married to Penny Allen Christensen, Senior Counsel with the Washington State Office of the Attorney General. They have two teenage children.
